India is a mixture of different religions, cultures and traditions. If you are visiting India or you are a food lover like me, you must try these famous foods in India.
There are many delicious dishes in India. However, I am going to share 7 famous Indian dishes which are my favourites.
Samosas are a very popular snack in India. It is a fried dish with a tasty filling made up of potato, onions, peas and spices. In India everyone loves samosa. In different states, its served in different ways. But the common way is with chutney, which is also of different types.
Samosa chat is also one of the popular street food in India. It consists of a crushed samosa, then topped with chickpeas, yoghurt, sweet and tangy chutneys and some fine gram flour vermicelli.
6. Puri Sabji:
One of the common breakfast in India is puri sabji. Its very delicious and also very easy to prepare. Puris are made with whole wheat flour and its served with potato side dish which can be either dry or curried.
Potato side dish and puri is the perfect combination, its like they are made for each other. Its also served with several other side dishes like chickpeas, paneer, potato and peas.
5. Rajma Chawal(Kidney Beans and Rice):
Red kidney bean curry with chawal(rice). Again one of the common and famous foods in India. Usually, we eat this during lunch, some prefer at dinner also.
This dish is very famous in Punjab. The best way of cooking Rajma is to soak it overnight in water, boil it in a pressure cooker and mix spices with chopped onions, pureed tomato, ginger, garlic and other fresh spice including cumin, coriander and chilli powder.
4. Palak Paneer:
Palak paneer(Spinach and cottage cheese) is one of the popular veg recipes in India. It is rich in protein and has much health benefits. The paneer is pan-fried and the paste is made from pureed spinach, garam masala, garlic, ginger and other spices.
I like it with tandoori naan or kulcha. You can try it with rice as well or different kinds of Indian breads. This dish is good for people who follow healthy diet and they are looking for some good tasty food as well.
Birthplace of Chaat is Uttar Pradesh, India. It is a very tasty snack which is usually sold at the roadside stalls and food carts. It became very popular in India.
There are different varieties of chaat like samosa chaat, Aloo chaat, papdi chaat, dahi chaat and Aloo Tikki Chaat. Most common is aloo tikki chaat. According to Wikipedia, there are 27 types of Chaat.
2. Tandoori Chicken
Indians loves tandoori chicken. Its prepared by roasting the marinated chicken in tandoor. Mostly in India its eaten as a starter in some occasion as main course as well. Its mixed with other curries like butter chicken.
To prepare the marinade we would need raw chicken, yogurt, ginger garlic paste, red chilli, tandoori masala, chat masala, oil, lemon juice and salt. We have to mix all these ingredients in a bowl and apply it on our raw chicken pieces. Leave it for 30 minutes, than roast it in oven or tandoor, electric tandoor is also available.
Tandoori masala made by dry roasting some spices which are turmeric powder, clove, bay leaves, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, green and brown cardamon, pepper and cinnamon. Now grind them into a fine powder.
1. Chicken Biryani:
There are different varieties of biryani like Tehri(which is the vegetarian version of biryani), Beef biryani, chicken biryani, mutton biryani and kacchi biryani.
Based on the preparation style and the origin region, there are different types of biryanis. Like Hyderabadi biryani(this one is my personal favorite), Delhi biryani, Kolkata biryani, dum biryani, Dhakai biryani, Sindhi biryani, Awadhi biryani, and many more.
